An Educational Debate
There has been an ongoing debate to see which is better: a student centered class, or a professor centered class; however, in terms of understanding the topics, memorizing facts, and sharing different opinions, a student centered class shows, again and again, a clear advantage when compared to a teacher centered class. Regarding how well a topic is understood, student centered classes are the most viable option to choose to manage a class. A successful class is based on students’ feedback. This is because students are the ones being evaluated. In the event that students are not clear in any subject, they are entitled to ask questions as much as they want in order to be understood. Teacher centered classes do not invest time in this field. Teachers impart their class in a monotonous way, not caring if the contents are fully understood or not. Regarding memorizing facts, students centered classes offer the time to practice difficult topics along with the professor, thus, delivering a better performance on exams. Professor centered classes do not bother to include practice in their classes. This kind of approach pretends that students should seek additional assistance such as private tutors or online resources. Concerning to opinions from students, these are essential for improving the class settings. When students are the center of the class, they will not be afraid to speak their minds, they know the class belong to them, and they will not be held back from whatever they want to say. In a professor centered class, the teacher acts as a dictator, establishing a set of rules that can not be changed. Although this teacher may have put some thought into this set of rules, not every student will find those rules as fare. To sum up, students do not appreciate how succinct and uncomfortable a teacher centered class is. Conversely, students will be more than happy to participate in a student centered class because of the time invested in on them. That is why a student centered class has the right arguments to deliver a better learning experience over a professor centered class.
